FLIGHT TRAINING

HOW DO I EARN MY PILOTS LICENSE?

The process starts with a tour of our school, up close look at the aircraft fleet and an introductory Discovery Flight:

  • You have the choice between the popular Cessna 172 or tailwheel Bellanca Decathlon! Our instructors will have you sit in the pilots seat and fly!  Expect a few minutes of ground instruction pre-flight, at least 30 minutes of flight time and a debrief back at the hangar

  • After Discovery flight, we ask if you want to commit to on-going training, then hold an introductory meeting.

    • Together we fill out an action plan to establish goals, forcast potential obstacles you may encounter and build a timeline to help achieve mission

    • For Ground School, you will receive a complimentary Sheridan Pilots 307 flight bag with Sporty’s Learn to Fly syllabus, local charts and plotter along with suggested list of aviation books.

    • Special note for youth ages 8-17, you can access Sporty’s Learn to Fly course FREE through EAA Young Eagles until age 19!

  • Now its time to start flight training with your instructor learning required maneuvers and logging hours!

  • The FAA requirement to earn a private pilot license is:

    • Be 17 years of age (Solo at 16)

    • Read, speak, write and understand the English Language

    • Hold a U.S. student pilot certificate

    • Log minimum of 40 hours of flight training and have logbook endorsement from a certified instructor

      • 20 hours of dual flight training with instructor

      • 10 hours of solo flight

    • Pass a FAA 2.5 hour written exam (Schedule through PSI)
